When it comes to planning a wedding, one of the most important things that you will need to consider is the budget. Yes, we all want the best venue, the most delicious food and an epic after party that our friends will love, but unfortunately money doesn’t grow on trees, so budgeting and spending wisely will be necessary.

If you want to cut costs while still ensuring that your wedding lives up to all of your expectations, check out our tips for budgeting effectively for your big day.

Work out who will pay for what

While traditionally the bride’s father pays for the wedding, with the cost of the day rising year on year, you can’t now assume that parents will pay for your big day.

Instead, you will need to sit down with both sides of the family and discuss who is happy to pay for what. Be sure to be polite, it is their money that you’re asking for after all.

Also, be willing to accept the fact that you are going to have to put your hand in your pocket.

Decide on what’s important

Unfortunately, you can’t have it all, so when it comes to your wedding budget, something may have to give.

Once you’ve figured out who’s paying for what and how much money you can allocate for different things, make a priority list of what’s most important to you and your fiancé.

If you’re more bothered about a stunning venue than an extravagant meal, set more money aside for this and adjust your amounts accordingly.

Work out figures when it comes to catering

A lot of people are now opting to have buffets during their wedding receptions as opposed to a sit down meal where you pay per plate, but in many cases this can work out to be more expensive.

This is because caterers will need to bring a lot more food due to the fact they don’t know what your guests will want to eat.

Be sure to work out the costs and work out what is going to be cheaper, unless of course you have a strong preference either way, in which case you should go with the food option that you prefer.

Enlist the help of talented friends

Most of the time, the help you receive during the planning of your wedding is hired, but if you have a talented friend or relative, why not rely on them for some assistance?

If you are close to someone who is talented as a make-up artist, calligrapher or baker, ask them to help you out with these things. They’ll be more than happy to help and are likely to give you friend’s rates, meaning you’ll save some money and boost their ego. Win win.
